81.2.12 (M M M M) Private Security Alarms
A written directive establishes procedures for monitoring or receiving and responding to private security alarms.
Commentary
The agency should have a formal policy and procedure concerning the monitoring or receiving of commercial and private residential alarm systems. If a monitoring system is utilized, the The agency should seek regulating legislation for the installation and maintenance of the various alarm systems. Such legislation should specify sanctions for excessive false alarms. Care should be exercised in considering private home alarms that ring into department telephone lines. If a monitoring system is not utilized, the The agency's policy should address entering and dispatching of alarms obtained from commercial alarm companies to service business alarms. (M M M M)
