41.2.8 (M M M M) Administration of Narcotics and/or Pharmaceuticals
A written directive establishes procedures for the administration of narcotics or other pharmaceuticals by trained agency personnel.
Commentary
The intent of this standard is to address the administration or provision of pharmaceuticals such as Ketamine or Naloxone by agency personnel. Agencies authorizing personnel to administer such pharmaceuticals should ensure personnel are provided with current medical protocols, approved by the appropriate state/provincial, regional or local authority if required by law or regulation. The agency must also ensure personnel authorized to administer pharmaceuticals are appropriately trained. (M M M M)
