Stephen W. Mitchell
Stephen W. Mitchell joined the CALEA staff in 1992, immediately following his retirement as a lieutenant from the City of Fairfax, Virginia Police Department. He was named Officer of the Year in 1976 for his undercover narcotics work while serving under a multi-jurisdictional mutual aid agreement. He also was the Accreditation Manager who guided that agency through its initial CALEA Accreditation.
Steve is a graduate of the Penn State Police Executive Development Institute and the Virginia Forensic Science Academy. He teaches the Accreditation Manager Training class the CALEA Conferences and is liaison to the State Agencies Accreditation Coalition (SAAC) and to the Public Safety Accreditation Coalitions in the Northeast and Southwest regions, where he is assigned as Regional Program Manager. Additionally, he is liaison to the Commission Review Committee C.
Steve is active in many community activities including his church where he serves as Laity Leader and chairs the Military Fellowship and the Commission on Missions. He is a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion, the U.S. Army Security Agency Association, the City of Fairfax Retired Officers Association, and the Fraternal Order of Police Battlefield Lodge #43.
