During 2001, two separate events involving the use of police deadly force took place within St. Louis County, Missouri. The first incident involved a multi-jurisdictional drug task force comprised of municipal, county, and federal officers. During a planned arrest of a drug suspect, two officers, one municipal and one federal, used force which resulted in the death of the suspect and a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle. A police review of the shooting found the use of force by the officers to be justified. A subsequent grand jury investigation and a review by the United States Attorney’s Office resulted in no criminal charges being filed against the officers.
