Forum Help

Welcome to the new CALEA Forum. The forum is integrated into the new CALEA site. Your login to the forum is the same as your site login, and you can search forum topics and replies using the main site search.

Here are instructions for performing basic tasks on the new forum. Please fill out our contact form if you encounter any issues or have a question about the forum.

User Picture

To add a picture to display by your posts, log in to the site. Click on your username where it says 'Logged in as: [username] | logout' at the top of the page. Click on the tab that says 'Edit'. This will allow you to edit your account settings. Scroll to the fieldset that says 'Picture' and click on the browse button. This will let you choose a picture from the files on your computer. Choose a picture in jpg, png pr gif format that is 85x85 pixels or smaller and 30kb or below. Click 'Open'. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Save' to commit your changes. This picture will be displayed in your forum topics and replies, and with any comments that you leave on the site.

Signature

To edit your signature, follow the steps above to edit your account settings, and scroll to the fieldset that says 'Signature settings'. Type or copy and paste your desired signature into the text area. If your text is coming from Microsoft Word, or another text editor or a webpage, formatting from the source could cause the text to display strangely. To remove the source formatting, paste the text into notepad or another plain text edit, then copy this text and paste into the signature field on your account settings page. You can also use the button that looks like a clipboard to set the text area to plain text mode so that formatting will be removed when you paste. You can then reapply formatting to the clean text by highlighting the text you would like to format with your mouse, and then clicking the bold or italic buttons above the text area.

Posting a new topic

For example: Go to the forum page and click on the 'General Discussion' link. You will see the page has the headline 'General Discussion'. You are now within the 'General Discussion' forum in 'CALEA Forum II'.

You can see all the topics that have been posted, how many 'Replies' have been posted to each topic, how many times each topic has been viewed, who created the topic, when it was created, and when it was last replied to and by who.

To post a new topic, click on the link 'Post new Forum topic' below the headline. Enter a subject line for your topic so that other users will know what the topic is about. under 'Vocabularies', leave the 'Forums' dropdown set to the name of the forum you are in. (If you decide that you want to post in a different forum after clicking 'Post new Forum topic', you could change the forum you were posting to here.) In the 'Body' field, type the text for your new Forum topic. When you are finished entering this text, click on the 'Save' button to post your new topic.

If you want to attach a file to your new topic, before saving click on the link 'File attachments' just above the save button. Click on the 'Browse' button next to the 'Attach new file' field to browse to the file you would like to attach on your computer. Select the file, and click the 'Open' button. Then click the 'Attach' button on the 'Create Forum topic' form to upload the file. When you save your new forum topic, the file that you have attached will be displayed below it for other users to download.

Posting a reply

To post a reply to a topic, click on the topic subject link in the forum's topics list or in the 'Active forum topics' or 'New forum topics' blocks in the right sidebar. Click on 'Post Reply' under the topic title at the top of the page to reply directly to the topic, or click on the 'Reply' link at the bottom of the topic post or one of the reply posts to reply to that post. Type your reply into the 'Comment' field and then click 'Preview' to see how your reply looks. Then click 'Save' to post your reply.

Finding active topics

The 'Active forum topics' block in the right sidebar shows the subjects of the forum topics from all the forums that have been replied to recently. You can click on the subject to go directly to the topic post to read it and reply to it.

Finding new posts

The 'New forum topics' block in the right sidebar shows the subjects of the forum topics from all the forums that have been just been posted. You can click on the subject to go directly to the topic post to read it and reply to it.
