CASF Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria
Any law enforcement agency, public safety communications agency or public safety training academy seeking initial accreditation that meets the CALEA-established criteria for participating in the accreditation programs is eligible to apply for a grant.
- Agencies must be legally constituted state, provincial, county, or local governmental entities with a mandated responsibility to enforce laws, provide public safety communications services or provide public safety training.
- The agency awarded the grant will be required to pay one-half of the estimated on-site assessment charge at the beginning of the initial accreditation process. This amount shall be non-refundable. The remaining one-half shall be paid prior to the on-site assessment.
- Each grant shall be made subject to the accuracy of the information supplied by the subject agency in its application and any inaccurate information which change the facts for which the selection criteria was applied will be grounds for rescinding or revoking the grant.
Application Requirements
Agencies' applications are due no earlier than 8:00 AM, September 1 and no later than 5:00 p.m. on December 31 of the current year. Grant recipients will be announced at the Commission’s Spring Conference in the next year. Six copies of the application, including one original, are required.
The following information must be included in each application. Failure to provide all information required will automatically disqualify an agency from consideration.
- Commission Forms: Agencies must complete both CASF’s Application Form and the Legal Basis and Eligibility Statement, which are attached to this announcement.
- Application Narrative: The application narrative should consist of the following components:
- Statement of Interest: Explain why the agency wants to become accredited. Document both the agency’s and the governing body’s long-term commitment to the accreditation process.
- Budget Statement: Document the agency’s need for financial assistance. The financial/budgetary authority should explain, in detail: (a) why accreditation funds are not currently available, and, (b) what funds are available to meet any costs that may be incurred in order for the agency to comply with accreditation standards. The authority should also indicate the existence of obligate funds for the on-site assessment (currently estimated to be $5,500), as well as any other fiscal resources required to complete the initial accreditation.
- Plan of Action: Describe the agency’s plan to complete the initial accreditation process in the required time period. Identify internal and external resources that will be utilized. Name the agency’s contact person in this matter and/or Accreditation Manager.
- Organizational Capability: Describe the agency’s experience in conducting projects of a similar nature.
