CALEA FLAGSHIP AGENCY
PROGRAM 
Seven agencies were recognized at the Boston, Massachusetts, CALEA Conference under the new CALEA Flagship Agency program. The Flagship Agency program was introduced at the Winter 2004 Conference in Austin, Texas to acknowledge the achievement and expertise of some of the most successful CALEA Accredited public safety agencies, and also to provide “flagship examples” to assist other agencies.
CALEA staff select Flagship Agencies, by agency type and program, based primarily on their past performance. Selected agencies are invited to exhibit at a CALEA Conference to showcase their agency materials, offer networking opportunities, discuss issues, and offer suggestions based on their experiences with CALEA Accreditation.
Exhibiting at the Boston Conference were the following Flagship agencies:
- Cobb County (GA) 911 Communications Bureau, accredited since July 2002
- Harrisburg (PA) Bureau of Police, accredited since July 1989
- LaGrange (GA) Police Department, accredited since July 1999
- Lincoln (NE) Emergency Communications/911 Center, accredited since July 2002
- Normal (IL) Police Department, accredited since July 1994
- Northwest Bergen (NJ) Central Dispatch, accredited since March 1999
- Valdosta (GA) Police Department, accredited since July 1999
To be considered, a Flagship Agency must meet the following criteria:
Must be a law enforcement agency being reaccredited for a second time (having 3 assessments) or a public safety communications or public safety training academy being reaccredited for the first time (having 2 assessments), at a minimum.
Must have received unconditional accreditation awards.
CALEA Flagship Agencies are announced at each CALEA Conference Opening Session and also receive a certificate at the Celebration Banquet, along with being identified in the CALEA Update newsletter.
