CASF GRANT REMINDER As a reminder to all perspective agencies seeking initial accreditation, applications for the 2006 grants from the CALEA Agency Support Fund (CASF) must be submitted between September 1 and December 31, 2005. Qualified law enforcement agencies, public safety communications agencies, as well as public safety training academies, with 50 or fewer full-time employees, are eligible to apply. These grants are primarily directed at agencies that, without the grant, would not otherwise be able to enter an accreditation program. Agencies applying for consideration must: (1) be seeking initial accreditation; and, (2) be legally constituted state, province, county, or local governmental entities with a mandated responsibility to enforce laws, provide public safety communications services, or provide public safety training. Under this program, selected agencies receive a grant for the administrative portion of their initial accreditation fees. They are required to pay the application fee of $250 for law enforcement agencies and $200 for public safety communications agencies and public safety training academies, and the cost of the CALEA Accreditation Compliance Express (CACE) software for their program. The agency must also be prepared to cover the estimated cost of their on-site assessment. The Commission staff has developed a grant application package that can be ordered by calling Planning and Research Coordinator, Reginald Newell, at (800) 368-3757, extension 39. This package can also be downloaded from the CALEA Online website, www.calea.org, under the News & Events section.
