Mark your calendars! Austin, Texas…December 1-4, 2004. The Commission will celebrate its 25th Anniversary at the Fall CALEA Conference, and make no mistake; it will be a Texas-style celebration. Chief Stanley L. Knee and all of the members of the Austin Police Department, the Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico (TALON) Police Accreditation Coalition (PAC) membership, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education are all hard at work and committed to making this a conference to remember. Lieutenant Sean Mannix and Senior Officer Larry Roberson of the Austin Police Department are the Host Agency Co-chairs and the contacts at CALEA are Administrative Services Manager Tony Beatty and Program Manager Steve Mitchell. Ms. Laurie Winkelmann, CALEA’s Conference Planner, is ably assisting. The host committee’s plans, though still in development, are quite expansive. They include: provisions for transporting all attendees from the airport to the hotel, hospitality nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and a spectacular official host activity on Thursday night. Most notably, an invitation has been extended to former President George H. Bush to be the Guest Speaker on Friday afternoon. As part of the celebration, all past Commissioners and CALEA Executive Directors will be invited to attend, as will representatives of the four founding organizations: International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), and Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). Mark your calendars and plan to be part of this special anniversary event!
