Your Commissioner Jack R. Greene      


Commissioner Jack R. Greene is professor of Criminal Justice and dean of the College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University where he oversees an instructional program enrolling 1000 undergraduate and 50 graduate students, as well as the Center for Criminal Justice Policy Research and the Institute for Race and Justice.  The College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University, located in Boston, MA, is one of the Nation’s oldest and largest academic programs in criminology and criminal justice.

 

Prior to becoming dean at the College of Criminal Justice, Dr. Greene was the Director of the Center for Public Policy at Temple University in Philadelphia where he was responsible for a multi­disciplinary public policy research center, teaching, and a community service organization. He also served as the Director of the Public Service Management Institute for Executive Level Managers at the Center for Public Policy.

 

Jack received both his M.S. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University in East Lansing. He is also a graduate of the College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University, graduating in 1973.  Dr. Greene has extremely varied teaching, grant, and research experience.  He was the Senior Consultant to the Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department for a National Institute of Justice Project focused on rebuilding patrol services, increasing strategic management, and building partnerships with community organizations.  He held a similar position within the Philadelphia Police Department.  In addition, he was the project director for a three-year, $2.3 million U.S. Department of Education grant aimed at revitalizing an urban community in North Philadelphia.

 

Currently, Dr. Greene is the principal investigator of research examining workplace violence, and is a co-investigator on a national assessment of School Resource Officer Programs.  In addition to his research, Dr. Greene serves as a Board Member on the State and Local Training Board of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy, and as a member of the Joint Council on Information Age Crime.

 

Jack is the author of numerous books, monographs, journal articles, reports, and papers on policing.  Among Dr. Greene's publications are his most recent co-authored book Police Administration (McGraw-Hill, 1997); Community Policing, Rhetoric and Reality (Praeger, 1988) and Managing Police Work (Sage, 1984).  He is co-editor of Police Integrity (forthcoming, Wadsworth).

 

He became a CALEA Commissioner in January 1998 and is currently serving on the Corporate Affairs Committee, Review Committee E, and Chairs the Strategic Planning Committee.  Jack’s hobbies include golf, reading, a little boating, and international travel.
