Thanking Those Who Served

CALEA said thank you to three Commissioners who have served with distinction during most of the 1990s, Bill Buckner, Dorris Certain, and Jim Wright.

William Buckner retired as the City Manager of Marietta, Georgia.  His most current assignments included serving on the Outreach, and State Accreditation Committees along with Agency Review Committee B.  Bill served CALEA for six years.  His trademark is telling fish stores with a cigar in hand.

Dorris Certain is retiring from both CALEA and her position as the Planning and Research Coordinator of the Plano (TX) Police Department.  Noted for her in-depth knowledge of CALEA standards and process, Dorris served nine years with CALEA, most recently on the SRIC and State Accreditation Committees.  She was also a member of Agency Review Committee D.

A government consultant and former city manager who is willing to raise tough issues, James Wright II recently served on the Corporate Affairs Committee and Agency Review Committee D.  Jim lives in Maryland and has been representing CALEA since 1994.

In addition to saying goodbye to our three Commissioners, we also bid a sad adieu to Program Manager, Rich Meier.

Rich left CALEA in December to return to New Jersey to be closer to his family.  Rich joined CALEA in March 2000, after having served 30 years with the Ridgewood (NJ) Police Department.  The office staff, as well as his client agencies, will all miss him.
