Working With You
Janice Dixon-Program
Assistant
Janice Dixon joined CALEA
in June 2000 as a Program Assistant working with Program Managers Rich Meier and
Karen Shepard. Besides handling the administrative duties associated with their
agencies, she is also responsible for entering and providing information to the
new agency leads from CALEA’s marketing programs.
Janice brings an
interesting mix of educational background, job experiences, and careers to the
position. Growing up in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, Janice graduated from
Thiel College in Greenville (PA) with a B.A. degree in political science and
soon moved to Alexandria (VA). There she served as a deputy clerk of court for
the Circuit Court of Alexandria. A few years later, she returned to graduate
school, earning a M.A. degree in Librarianship from the University of Denver.
After working in positions as a law, and then a special librarian in the Denver
area, Janice changed careers and became a sales representative for a college
textbook publishing company.
After assignments in two
territories – New Orleans (LA) and Richmond (VA) – Janice accepted a marketing
manager position for another major textbook publisher and moved to Chicago.
Finally, after living in 5 cities and surviving eighteen years in the publishing
business, she accepted a proposal of marriage and moved back to northern
Virginia. Janice and her husband, Don, live in Fairfax (VA) and enjoy
traveling, trying local wines wherever they go, and reading.
Janice reports to strongly
“believing in” the purpose and function of CALEA. “More importantly, I often
have client personnel or an assessor tell me they believe in
accreditation. With all that has happened over the past year, I think Americans
perhaps have a renewed respect and appreciation for all law enforcement and
public safety communications agencies. But I also think greater demands and
expectations are being placed on all agencies. I think CALEA accredited agencies
are in the most favorable position to confidently respond to those
additional demands and expectations.”
