New Commissioners
Chief
Mary Ann Viverette of the Gaithersburg (MD) has been appointed to the Commission
filling the term of past Commission Chair/President Stephen Monier, who was
selected by President Bush to become a U.S. Marshal.
Mary Ann
is currently the 4th Vice President on the Board of Officers of the
International Association of Chiefs of Police. She is a graduate of the FBI
National Academy, and has a Master’s degree from the University of Maryland.
Mary Ann has an extensive background with CALEA; her agency is accredited, she
was an assessment team leader, and has served on several CALEA committees
including Co-chairing the 3rd and 4th edition revisions of
the standards manual.
CALEA’s
newest Commissioner is currently a Councilwoman for the City of Phoenix,
Arizona. In this appointment, she is serving out the un-expired term of former
Commissioner Jack Bishop who retired in April 2002.
During
six of her eight years as Councilwoman for the City of Phoenix, she has served
on the Public Safety Subcommittee. She was the first woman to serve on the
committee which oversees all aspects of law enforcement, and if need be, can
recommend policy changes subject to the approval of the City Council. In this
position, she has been a strong supporter of the Commission’s accreditation
programs recognizing their role in improving the delivery of law enforcement
service through the administration of a body of professional standards.
Peggy earned a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Education from Northwestern College in Iowa City, (IA), and
she teaches physical education and health occupations at Valley Lutheran High
School in Phoenix.
