Communications CornerAt the July 2001 CALEA Conference in St. Louis, Missouri, the Public Safety Communications Accreditation Support Network (PSCASN) was fashioned. Since July, PSCASN has grown to include 24 member agencies. Five of these agencies are CALEA accredited communications agencies and one is CALEA certified. PSCASN is similar to the Police Accreditation Coalitions (PACs), but operates on a national level. Its website www.PSCASN.org is used to share communications accreditation related information between agencies, and support the communications accreditation process. To that end, the PSCASN organization met at the November 2001 San Diego Conference, and will meet at each Commission Conference in the future. PSCASN plans to staff a booth in the Resource Room at the upcoming Jacksonville Conference in March. Members will be on hand to answer questions on the benefits of the communications accreditation process and discuss areas of mutual interest with conference attendees. The PSCASN organization has also been actively working on improving the Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program with CALEA staff. Plans are in the works to present more communications oriented programs at future Commission Conferences. Also, additional forms are being designed to make the assessment process smoother for communications on-sites. Because the Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program is growing, CALEA is also looking for executives of communications agencies in the CALEA process to become assessors.
