New Commissioner
CALEA’s newest Commissioner, Sheriff Ted G. Kamatchus, is currently in his 25th year as a law enforcement official.  His career began in 1976 and culminated in his appointment as Marshall County (IA) Sheriff in 1988. more

On-sites Assessments Improved
After two years of testing and client feedback, CALEA Commissioners approved a panel review segment as part of all future on-site assessments.  CALEA will start to introduce an assessment model tailored to individual agency conditions that includes: more

William Buckner was born in the Appalachian coal country of Hazard, KY.  He graduated from the University of Kentucky at Lexington in 1957 with a degree in Journalism. more

States Approved for Alliance
Washington became the first state, followed closely by Oregon to join the CALEA Alliance.  CALEA Commissioners approved their applications and the CALEA staff evaluation.  In these two states, the local accreditation program is authorized to manage the CALEA Recognition Program in conjunction with the state program. more

Our congratulations to the 61st President of the National Sheriff’s Association, John Cary Bittick, who was sworn in at the association’s conference on June 27, 2001.  Sheriff Bittick is the sheriff of Monroe County (GA) and serves as Secretary of the Commission. Also, congratulations to Patrick J. Sullivan, Jr., Sheriff of Arapahoe County (CO), who was honored with the Ferris Lucas Award, recognizing him as the National Sheriff’s Association, Sheriff of the Year.  Sheriff Sullivan is a CALEA Commissioner, serving his third term.

CALEA needs your help in maintaining an accurate database. Please notify CALEA when there are changes made in your organization that may affect CALEA. These include changes in CEO’s or accreditation managers, agency address, or changes in area codes, telephone, fax and extension numbers. Your cooperation enables us to maintain an up to date database.

Additionally, PAC officials should notify CALEA of appropriate changes.
