Top Assessor Besides scoring 100% on the Assessor Test at the Greensboro (NC) CALEA Conference, Virgil Young has had life and professional law enforcement experiences that make him one of CALEA’s top assessors. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS, and holds a Master’s degree in Professional (Criminal Justice) Studies from Long Island University in Greenvale, NY. Before joining the FBI as a Special Agent in 1970, Virgil spent four years in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry officer, including 13 month in Vietnam. During his 27-year career in the FBI, Virgil was assigned at various times in the Detroit, San Francisco, New York City, Richmond, and Knoxville Field Offices. He also served two tours at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC, where he worked at various times in a supervisory or management capacity in the Criminal Investigative, Inspection, Identification, and the Criminal Justice Information Services Divisions. He attended numerous training courses throughout his FBI career, including the FBI’s Executive Development Institute and the Washington Executive Seminar. His last assignment in the FBI was as the Special Agent in Charge of the Knoxville (TN) Field Office from 1994 until his retirement in 1998. Virgil’s exceptional report writing and people skills have served CALEA well. A veteran assessor and team leader, he is highly regarded by the CALEA staff, fellow assessors, and client agencies. As a top assessor, Virgil will review new assessor test questions for appropriateness and composition before they are included in the classroom setting. Virgil resides in Knoxville with is wife of 32 years. He is involved in numerous community volunteer activities, and in his spare time enjoys reading, racquetball, bridge, and working with his home computer. He is also a consultant in the security and investigative fields. |
