Assessor Training

CALEA is looking for a few good assessors.

The Commission desires to increase minority and female representation in its assessor corps. There is also a need for assessors who are fluent in speaking and reading French and Spanish. CALEA is also interested in recruiting assessors who may have been military officers or senior non-commissioned officers with military law enforcement experience.

CALEA's minimum requirement for assessors is five years of supervisory experience. Potential assessors need the written endorsement of their CEO to be considered. Your resume is your application and should be sent to Jim Brown, Director of Client Services at CALEA.

Resumes indicating appropriate personal, educational, and professional accomplishments are compared with CALEA's demographic needs and selections made. Demographic factors include, but are not limited to the size of your agency, type of agency, location of agency, number of assessors from your agency, and the agency's demonstrated ability to manage the CALEA Accreditation Program. Individual demographics include race, sex, and experience of the potential assessor. The Commission has expressed a strong desire that assessors represent agencies that are formally participating in the CALEA process.

Strong knowledge of law enforcement or public safety communications practices is required along with a solid knowledge of the CALEA standards and process. Assessors for the Communications program must be executive level employees.

Persons chosen for new assessor training must register for and attend a specific CALEA meeting at their own or agency expense, take two days of assessor training, and pass a written test. Persons who pass the assessor test have a solid knowledge of CALEA’s accreditation standards and processes.

Final selections for the November 30 - December 1 training in Burlington, VT will be made approximately one month before the meeting. Successfully completing assessor training does not guarantee selection as an assessor.
