Top Assessor

Chief Patrick "Tom" Shanahan of the 900 member CALEA accredited Anne Arundel County (MD) Police Department is recognized as a "Top Assessor." Tom took assessor retraining and team leader training in Atlanta, GA, in November and received 100% on the assessor test. Tom states, "I thoroughly enjoyed the assessor and team leader training held in Atlanta. The test was definitely thought-provoking and challenging, and should add great credibility to the accreditation process."

Chief Shanahan has been with the Anne Arundel County Police Department for over 27 years and has held numerous command positions including, homicide investigator, Commander of Internal Affairs, Deputy Chief of both Field Operations and Technical Services, and presently Chief of Police. Tom has a Masters Degree from John Hopkins University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Tom has participated in five assessments since 1997. He is a Team Leader and was chosen as an assessor for the recently completed Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s test reaccreditation assessment. This on-site featured some file review by the assessors prior to the physical on-site, and a compliance panel review conducted while at the agency.
