The U.S. Marshals Service received two awards at a Department of Justice ceremony in Washington, DC on May 16th. Commission Chair William D. Miller presented the CALEA accreditation award certificate to Attorney General Janet Reno, and U.S. Marshals Service Director John Marshall, citing them as the first federal law enforcement agency to be accredited.

The Accreditation team of Robert Liebscher, Joyce A. McDermott, Sandra G. Watkins, John M. Grieg, Dina J. Lawson and G. H. Kleinknecht, the Assistant Director for Executive Services, was recognized for their efforts by the Attorney General. Ms Reno presented the team with the Vice President’s distinguished "Hammer Award," given to federal employees who have improved the way government operates. Ms. Reno’s remarks expressed her vision of law enforcement’s role in a democracy and praised the integrity and steadfastness of the Marshals Service.
