Georgia Sheriff's Association New President
John Cary Bittick the Sheriff of Monroe
County (GA) has recently been sworn as the new President of the Georgia Sheriff's
Association. (Sheriff Bittick, the third generation in his family to hold the Sheriff's
Office, has served as the chief law enforcement officer of Monroe County for the past 17
years. He began his career in 1973 as a Deputy Sheriff, a position he held for eight years
until he was promoted to Senior Lieutenant in 1981). Sheriff Bittick is a CALEA
Commissioner and Secretary of the Executive Board. He is also a member of the Board's
Investment and the Standards and Review Interpretations Committees.
Sheriff Bittick received his BA in Criminal Justice from Mercer University and is a graduate of the Federal Academy in Quantico (VA). He is a dedicated criminal justice professional who is involved in numerous community and law enforcement organizations. John Cody, Senior Executive Vice President of the Georgia Sheriff's Association commented, "The people of Georgia have long been familiar with the tradition of leadership and excellence in law enforcement in the Bittick family.
