New Commissioners Assume Duties

The Executive Directors of CALEA’s four founding organizations appointed three new CALEA Commissioners in February for three-year terms. All Commissioners have distinguished careers and have a reputation for supporting CALEA.

John LaFlamme

The appointment of Chief John LaFlamme of the accredited Lethbridge Police Service, Alberta, Canada represents CALEA’s growing acceptance in Canada. Chief LaFlamme was a CALEA assessment team leader and a member of the 4th Edition Standards Review Task Force. He has also been appointed as a special advisor to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police on accreditation matters. Chief LaFlamme was formally involved with accreditation when he was with the first Canadian agency accredited, the Edmonton Police Service in Alberta. Chief LaFlamme said "he was delighted to work with CALEA in improving law enforcement in North America."

Patrick Oliver

Patrick Oliver’s law enforcement career began as a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He served as the Chief for the city of Cleveland Police Department and Chief of Cleveland Metroparks. He is now the Chief of Police in Grandview Heights (OH). Chief Oliver served as a CALEA assessment team leader and his agency is completing the self-assessment process. Pat holds a master’s degree in Business Administration and is a very active member of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). In addition, Pat was appointed by the Governor to Ohio’s Peace Officer Training Council.

James "Tim" Moore

James T. Moore began his career with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) in 1973, serving in a variety of technical. professional, and managerial positions. Tim was appointed Commissioner of the 1500 member agency in 1988. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminology for Florida State University, and completed a Masters Degree in Public Administration with a perfect 4.0 grade average. The FDLE handles major criminal investigations, the state crime lab, training, and criminal records systems, Commission Chairman William Miller said "Tim Moore is an excellent representative for large and state agencies and one who will bring a unique perspective to CALEA."
