Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch Bob Greenlaw, is the proud Director of the Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch in New Jersey, because his agency is the first to be accredited at the Denver meeting under CALEAs new accreditation program for public safety communications agencies. To review the historic process, CALEA sent Program Manager Dennis Hyater and the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International (APCO) sent Bob Jarrett, of their membership department, to observe the January on-site assessment. Jim Brown, CALEAs Director of Client Services, said Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch was able to complete the on-site quickly because their director is an experienced CALEA assessor who closely followed the draft development of the standards, has an exceptionally good agency, and has high personal and leadership skills. The Communications Accreditation Program began with the realization that the Communications Certification program CALEA was offering was not effective in providing agencies with appropriate standards. CALEA and APCO formed a partnership to design a program that would enhance the service delivery of public safety communications agencies and recognize professional excellence. APCO provided technical expertise and knowledgeable communications executives for the standards and process development. Primarily designed for stand-alone public safety communications agencies, the Communications Accreditation Program contains 214 standards in six chapters. The process is similar to CALEAs law enforcement accreditation™ program. |
