ASAP Update

Some Agency Self-assessment Automation Program (ASAP) users expressed concerns about the 4th Edition Standards upgrade to ASAP software. Several agencies failed to back up their files and lost data and others experienced system crashes when converting from previous ASAP versions. CALEA found the problem was not wide spread.

A survey sent to all ASAP in March, found 61% of the active ASAP users installed the 4th edition upgrade, with 31% experienced some difficulty installing the program. The survey also found that only a small fraction of ASAP users with installation problems called CALEA for help. CALEA's Data Processing Coordinator, Linda Phillips is available to provide technical support at extension 27.

The survey also sought agency comments on areas to improve ASAP. The leading responses were: an updated Users Guide; on-line help function; customized reports; label and task lists; and global utility function. CALEA is looking into the feasibility of implementing these in future ASAP versions.

More training for ASAP users at CALEA conferences was also requested. At the July conference in Montreal, ASAP programmer Leo O'Brien will hold a technical support workshop for ASAP users on Thursday morning. Mr. O'Brien will present this class at two of the three yearly conferences. For more information about ASAP see our Website at www.calea.org.
