Bob Greenlaw, is the proud
Director of the Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch in New Jersey, because his agency is the
first to be accredited at the Denver meeting under CALEAs new accreditation program
for public safety communications agencies. To review the historic process, CALEA sent
Program Manager Dennis Hyater and the Association of Public-Safety Communications
Officials-International (APCO) sent Bob Jarrett, of their membership department, to
observe the January on-site assessment. more

Henry "Hank" DeGeneste was raised in a
middle class section of Newark, NJ where he graduated from Central High School in 1958.
Hank began working his way through college, performing a number of jobs including
draftsman, welder, postal worker, and teacher. He graduated from Adelphi University with a
BA in Business Management and applied for several police positions because they were
paying more than his current teachers' salary. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department in 1967 subsequently hired him. more

CALEA Meeting Ambassadors
In an effort to assist attendees at
CALEA meetings, volunteer "ambassadors" are being sought. Ambassadors will be
available Thursday and Friday to provide information to new attendees or persons seeking
information about the CALEA process, what classes to take, or whom to talk to. Contact Jim

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI)
implemented a Youth Apprenticeship Program in 1996. The program integrates classroom
instruction with work-based learning experiences at GBI Headquarters. more
ASAP Update
Some Agency Self-assessment
Automation Program (ASAP) users expressed concerns about the 4th Edition Standards upgrade
to ASAP software. Several agencies failed to back up their files and lost data and others
experienced system crashes when converting from previous ASAP versions.
