M. Hyater
Dennis joined
the staff in 1992, after serving 28 years with the Metropolitan Police
Department, in Washington DC. While employed with the Metropolitan Police
Department, he served as the Acting Branch Commander of the Fugitive Squad,
Check Section, and Burglary, Arson and Pawn Sections. Dennis was also selected
by his department to become the Commander of the first cold case Homicide
Unit. During his tenor, the Unit successful closed most of the cold homicide
cases they were assigned. Since joining CALEA, he has been the training
coordinator, taught assessor training, assessor refresher training,
accreditation manager training, introduction to the CALEA process, SRIC
Coordinator, and staff liaison with the Awards Committee. He serves client
agencies through interpretations of the international standards and fields
questions on accreditation, reaccreditation and recognition processes. Dennis’
motto is that he is not "Mr. Accreditation" but he knows how to find answers.
In his spare time, he enjoys golf and carpentry.
